Davie collected legal documents and land records for England and Virginia. Among the papers are a Fairfax coat of arms (1633), indentured servant agreement (1627), orders to pay money owed (1660-1665), and certificate and affidavit of the marriage of Charlotte Culpeper and John Peshall (1690). Land records include patents and deeds in Albemarle, Amelia, Augusta, Frederick, Hanover, Lunenburg, Nansemond, Norfolk, Old Rappahannock, and Stafford counties and Jamestown, Va. (1679-1777); warrants to survey land in Culpeper, Frederick, and Prince William counties (1740-1755); land grants in Amherst, Fauquier, and Lincoln (now Ky.) counties (1782-1788); and bounty land affidavits (1783-1785). Letters (1709-1825) concern the recovery of the Bahama Islands from the French, a dog, business affairs, Indian attacks against the Virginia militia, removing forces in the U.S. Continental army from the Southern Dept., commissary and barracks expenditures in the Bahamas, sale of coal, and sale of tobacco. Also included is a commission appointing justices of Northampton County for the trial of Peter Hill, an African-American (1765); executor's bond (1764) written and signed by George Washington; agreement to sell a lead mine in Wythe County (1827); and French documents concerning service in the French army (1740-1791).

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff.
